Introduction
The minimum duration for PG courses is two years (2 years) and four years is the maximum duration from the date of admission to the course. Candidate has to take readmission if he or she does not complete the course in two years.

Admission to M.A Courses is done as per the criteria of Rule1 and Rule 2. Candidates who have completed three-year graduation course can apply for PG courses (Rule1). Any graduate who has not studied the Cognate Subjects offered for PG courses can take admission. However, such candidates are required to clear the Master Preparatory Programme conducted by the Directorate of Distance Education, Kannada University, Hampi.
Master Preparatory Programme
This test is based on PUC text and includes objective type questions for 100 marks. This test is held on October 16th 2015 at the Kannada University Campus. Candidates who have scored 35 marks are only eligible for the admission to M.A programme. This test enhances the knowledge of the candidates and introduced with the sole objective to meet the nation standard.
Rule-2 Graduates in respective disciplines
Candidates seeking admission under Rule-2 need to pass the eligibility test. For example, a candidate who has passed BA can take admission to M.A in any of the subject he has studied in his/her graduation.

- Candidates who have passed BA/Fine Arts or equivalent degree from a government recognized university having studied Kannada as an optional subject.
- Candidates who have passed Kannada Pandit/Ratna exams conducted by Karnataka Government.
- Candidates who have passed Kannada Vidwan exam conducted by Madras University or B.Ed degree holders in Kannada subjects.
- Candidates who have passed Kannada Diploma from a recognized university.
- Candidates passed BA/BSc/BCom having studied Kannada in First year of Graduation can take admission to M.A in Kannada.
Admission to Final Year M.A in Kannada
Candidates who have passed previous M.A in Kannada from the Directorate of Distance Education, Kannada University need not submit fresh application. Those who have not appeared for the exam or not cleared the Previous M.A in Kannada previous can also pursue the final year course.

Practical
26 E course is a practical course having 25 marks for paper publishing, 25 marks for periodical publishing, 25 marks for editing, and 25 marks for internal. 26J is also a practical course which has 25 marks for Doordarshan, 25 marks for AIR and 50 for essay writing.
M.A in Sociology:
Admission Criteria: Candidates who have passed BA/BSW/ BA in Fine Arts with Sociology as a major subject or equivalent degree from a recognized university can take admission to M.A in Sociology course.
