The texts (both written and oral) are placed in the larger matrix of culture to research on various issues related to history, society, polity. The literary texts are read and interpreted in the light of recent theories so as to re-read them from the context of the present. INTRODUCTION<\/strong><\/h6>\n

Kannada University has started traditional diploma courses in Sculpture and painting at Vidyaranya in Hampi. These courses were shifted here in 1999.<\/p>\n

Badami, Aihole and Pattadakallu have historical significance. The extensive area is important from the point of learning art from the homosapien period to historical period. \u00a0The paintings of these periods bear testimony to the rich heritage.<\/p>\n

We can find diverse style of temple architecture \u2013 Dravida, Nagara and Vesara style. Chalukyas, Rastrakutas, Chalukya\u2019s of Kalyan continued the style. We see the traditional art form has supported as a source of livelihood.<\/p>\n

The University has started these courses to promote the traditional Sculpture. It is a blessing for the families who have been practicing traditional sculpture. The rich cultures of the area attract the tourists from far off places. They become elated and rejoice the architectural beauty. \u00a0\u00a0In 2000 BVA \u2013 Bachelor of Visual Art \u2013 a graduate course was introduced. This course has benefited meritorious to pursue higher courses to enhance their capabilities.<\/p>\n

Highly qualified and experienced teachers guide the students to reach higher level. Art camps, exhibitions, workshops, demonstrations, special lectures are held to promote art forms and it enhance their creativity. This is as well a part of the curriculum. In addition to these, the department is organizing programs such as Kathakunch, series paintings art exhibitions, weekly paintings, color-week, Nature view on the occasions of public importance.<\/p>\n

The specialty of the centre lies in organizing folk-art programs for the promotion and strengthening of the art-form. This is done by inviting the local artists who are wel-versed in their profession. Through demonstration our students learn the process and technique. The Banashankari area is famous for its wood work. Especially door work is done with meticulous care. The gods and goddesses, mythological figures animals and birds and the decorative designs are used to give a touch nobility.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Vision and Mission” tab_id=”1551782250579-b13d6b1a-924f”][vc_column_text el_class=”language-list”]<\/p>\n

Vision Statement of the Department<\/strong><\/h6>\n

The Department will work in both the art-form of sculpture and painting. The aim is to conserve the existing forms and continue to research to enhance the horizon of creativity. The study is based on \u2018Shilpa Sastra\u2019. However provision is made for the contemporary and modern art. The students make their own choice depending on their volition and interest. The faculty is in a position to guide the students for the research work. They can have Ph.D. M.Phil, and D.Litt in their chosen field. The head of the department will arrange for the interstate exhibitions. The scholars occasionally visit to give demonstration and deliver lectures on important topics. State and national level workshops and art-camps are held now and then. The department plans to include other university department to work collaboratively. It will facilitate cultural exchange.<\/p>\n

The artists use various media such as terracotta, stone, wood, metal and sometimes mix media for their artistic creation. The programs help for the development of folk-painting miniature-paintings, wall-paintings and contemporary paintings. Research studies are going on in the field of Mural paintings, Miniature painting, Manuscript painting paintings of the Muslim period, and folklore painting and chariot sculpture. The diversified study takes overall view of our multi cultured heritage. The study will reflect the keen social thinking. The department is conducting the foundation course of 2 years, BVA of 3 years duration, 1 year course of B.V.Ed.\u00a0 Highly qualified and experienced teachers guide them to move up professionally. The artists of great fame visit the department to give lectures and demos fortnightly.<\/p>\n

This is the only centre which provides for the study of traditional sculpture. Education is offered in the traditional style \u2013 Chalukya, Rashtrakuta, Vijayanagara and Hoysala. The art facts are prepared in the different media \u2013 stone, wood, metal, terracotta and fiber. Art is the part of our culture. We are going to take several projects to enhance the cultural richness of our country. The centre intends to publish books on art terminology relating o sculpture and painting. We have an idea to create art encyclopedia. Added to these there will be magazines to cater to the needs of the students. Its activities will be expanded and extended to the taluk and district head quarters.<\/p>\n

Mission Statement of the Department<\/strong><\/h6>\n

The department promotes a number of programs to develop aesthetic sense in addition to nurturing the culture of the country. Varna Saptaha is an art demonstration, for 7 days.<\/p>\n

There will be line drawing, portrait painting, life-painting, creative painting, landscape, traditional painting, and nature painting. The artists of great fame including our alumni participate in the workshops and exhibitions. They use media such as \u2013 terracotta, stone, wood, metal, cement and plaster in the creation of traditional sculpture.<\/p>\n

Kathakuncha is a different mode where in the story writers are invited. The story is listened to. The same story is depicted in painting \u2013 the verbal picture come in the form real painting. The views of the writer are reflected in the painting.<\/p>\n

Abhivyakti is another program. The faculty and the students join together to discuss the strategies and techniques relating to color, composition light and shade and structure.<\/p>\n

Nisarganota is an art camp held every year. Both the teacher and the thought will participate in it. Relevant spot is selected and the participants create beautiful pictures. Nature will inspire and enthuse giving more to the color, shape, type, design, light and shade. It is a more ideal place than learning in the 4 walled class-rooms.<\/p>\n

Sarani Chitra is an art-Exhibition specially created for the final year BVA student. It is conducted fortnightly. The students sit together to discuss things about their painting. Some time the public interested in the art participate and give their own views. This is how the students develop and enhance their views.<\/p>\n

Kalayatre is an innovative concept for the art students. They take their work and move to the art colleges and galleries to exhibit and hold discussion with the concerned. The program has been organized in Bidar, Vijayapur, Gadag, Betageri and Bangalore.<\/p>\n

Snehakuta is another kind of exhibition held every year. It is conducted especially for the final year BVA students. The students select their finest works of painting and sculpture and sit together to discuss things about composition and structure. The faculties of other colleges are invited to ascertain the quality of the work<\/p>\n

Art exhibition is a regular feature on important occasion such as Independence Day, Ganesh festival, Gandhi Jayanti, Rajyotsava and the Republic Day.<\/p>\n

  • Traditional sculpture does have religious philosophical and mythological features. Distinctly all the parameters of measurement, mode and style are incorporated in it.<\/li>\n
  • It is important to train the present generation artists keeping in view the different style of the tradition \u2013 Rastrakuta, Hoysala and Vijayanagara.<\/li>\n
  • The experts are invited to give demos. Different media will be used for the creation of the art work.<\/li>\n
  • Around the center there are places known for their art and craft \u2013 Hole Aluru, Badami, Jalihala, Beluru, Guledagudda and Kerur are a few places to mention. Folk artists are invited for lecturing and demonstration. We can have reorientation both in the folk and traditional field.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
